The art of war kicks off with a typical sabaton opener, gloriously capturing your attention and more importantly your voice, commanding you to sing along; During my early days of exploring sabaton's discography, i found myself largely impressed by most of their material, but the one album that always impressed me the most and left me blown away every time, was the art of war, both because of how well it takes its over arching concept and connects it so perfectly to the music, and because of how damn catchy and impressive.

Sure, all their songs are more or less focused on war and battles, but this album looks at various battles in modern warfare through the lens of sun tzu's famous treatise on war. Sometimes the premise makes you laugh. As i mentioned in my review of sabaton’s attero dominatus, i felt the message throughout the album was “war is a futile, senseless act of madness.”, but i don’t get that message so much with the art of war; The art of power metal is of vital importance to the listener.
